Is It Time to Look for a NEW Job?

Have you ever wanted a puppy?
When our daughter was 6, while we were living (stationed) in VA, our oldest daughter decided that she wanted a puppy – so bad. She begged for a puppy it seemed every day and told us she would do ALL the work.
Of course, we knew better. It’s hard to refuse a 6-year-old giving you ‘puppy eyes’ for a puppy. But we did. We gave her all the excuses – ‘We would be moving soon. Your younger sister is too young to have a puppy around. Oh, and your dad is allergic.’ – yeah, we took it that far.
Fast forward 4 years and we had moved back to CO. The pleas for a puppy had subsided, but not gone away. And then, around the time she turned 13 strategy took over. Her father had set conditions on what having a puppy would mean – It must be small, it must be hypoallergenic, it must be trainable, and she must take care of it.
Well, he underestimated the sheer will of our daughter. She went into research mode and after about 3 months, constructed a PowerPoint slide deck and gave a full-on presentation on Why We Need a Puppy.
(Did you know that having a pet around can lower your blood pressure?)
She had found the perfect kind of dog that matched his criteria – a miniature schnauzer! After about a year of searching, we found her - our puppy. Our daughter was now 14 – and the time (timing) was right. She was born in late November so we named her Winter. Check out her profile picture above – she is a miniature schnauzer mix.
When you are contemplating a BIG decision, a new job, or a career move, how do you know if the time is right?
Maybe, it’s been on your mind for a while now. People are being laid off via Zoom and now you’re not quite sure what the future holds.
Or maybe you must go into the office now, and discovered that during the pandemic, you really LOVED working remotely. Lately, you’ve noticed that it has become a constant thought – 'Should I consider looking for another job – a better opportunity'?
Here are 16 things to consider if you’re ready to jump ship, go in search of greener pastures, or need help deciding if you should just hit pause for
a little longer…
1.You notice that your organization is starting to re-structure and change is coming your way.
2.There’s a glass ceiling and you’ve reached it, or will soon, and you want more.
3.You FELL in love with working remotely, but you’re having to go back into the office, and it doesn’t feel right for you.
4.You have NEVER been given NEW responsibilities.
5.You haven’t had an evaluation in years (and you’ve asked for one)
6.You get sick often or you have to force yourself to get up and go to work (every day) – you’re working environment has become toxic.
7.Your peers are leaving more often than before.
8.You’re bored, easily distracted, not motivated at all.
9.You haven’t seen a raise in 2 years (taking COVID into consideration).
10.You’ve read up on challenges or problems the organization is having (bad press).
11.You KNOW you could be making more and you know you can’t get it where you are currently working.
12.You’ve been thinking about the change in culture that evolved where job hopping is not as much of a stigma – so leaving is not viewed so negatively.
13.There’s just not enough for you to do – (the writing may be on the wall for you to be let go soon).
14.You no longer feel that you or your job has a purpose (that you can get behind).
15.You know an acquisition or merger is on the horizon (there will most likely be a reorg).
16. There are no opportunities or possibly for cross training.
